OMAHA, Neb. —
2020 was one wild ride for Herbe Sainte co-owner Justin Halbert.
“Over the summer it started to pick up, we were still down in sales but we got the feeling that things were turning up,” said Halbert. “Come fall it started to get rough again and slowed way down in November and December.”
Halbert said sales dropped nearly 60 percent at one point in 2020, he’s hopeful a new locally owned meal delivery service LOCO Omaha could help his business.
“You’re seeing local businesses either complain about the national companies and percentages we have to pay, about the fact that its too expensive or cost prohibitive for us to do it on our own,” said Halbert.
LOCO Omaha President Brian O’Malley hopes his new service can help restaurants struggling in the midst of the pandemic.
O’Malley said the meal delivery service is part of a restaurant co-op and is strictly for local restaurants and added that this service will offer cheaper commission rates for restaurants.
“Restaurants have a difficult time making ends meet when they’re paying a third party delivery service 15 to 25 percent of their revenue,” said O’Malley. “So we wanted to find a way where the other end of the year any profits that were realized by charging that went back to the restaurants that we participating.”
