Just Eat will step up the expansion of its delivery business after investing millions of pounds to fend off vigorous competition from rivals such as Deliveroo and Uber Eats. The UK’s largest food marketplace has come under pressure from its main competitors outside the US, which have both launched competing products to connect diners with restaurants that use their own delivery people.
…Uber Eats and Deliveroo, which are not publicly listed, are burning through cash to fund their expansions and keep prices low in the battle for market share. Both companies have been focusing on growth as they pitch to investors — Uber as it prepares for an initial public offering expected this year and Deliveroo as it attempts to raise fresh investment. Both companies have launched marketplaces over the past year and recently announced plans to introduce a takeaway option so customers can order food through the app but collect it themselves.
