Walmart Enters a Bigger Food Delivery Fight. Why DoorDash and Uber Eats Should Worry

Walmart (NASDAQ:WMT) is widening its reach into food delivery by bringing more restaurant orders onto its platform through a new arrangement with Inspire Brands.

Dunkin will be the first chain added under the collaboration. The rollout starts at about 150 Dunkin locations operating inside Walmart stores, with plans to extend the service to most of the brand’s roughly 10,000 U.S. restaurants.

Customers will be able to combine restaurant food and drinks with Walmart purchases in a single delivery. The retailer is using its existing delivery network and broad store presence to support the expansion.

The move could put Walmart in closer competition with established food-delivery platforms such as DoorDash (NASDAQ:DASH) and Uber Eats (UBER). Walmart stores also host some McDonald’s (NYSE:MCD) locations, potentially creating another restaurant category for the service as it expands.

For investors, the initiative gives Walmart another way to use its delivery infrastructure beyond traditional retail orders. The financial impact may depend on how quickly the restaurant offering expands and how frequently customers add food to existing Walmart deliveries.

The restaurant push could strengthen Walmart’s delivery ecosystem, though the near-term earnings impact remains uncertain.
