Good LinkedIn post: just got off a call with a restaurant that’s moving to DoorDash’s new commerce platform. at first i wondered why and questioned it
DoorDash is shipping an Owner.com-style stack: branded website + 1p online ordering + crm + email/sms + a cross-channel loyalty program
all built on their marketplace rails
the big unlock here: you can message DoorDash marketplace customers (not just your own 1p list) with custom email / sms / push and point them to your 1P website/app
this is a huge deal because marketplaces never hand over their audience. their business model has always been to own that relationship
the fact that DoorDash is opening that door signals a strategy shift: they’re betting on being the platform where restaurants don’t just rent demand, they start owning it
translation: retarget your marketplace audience into your 1p funnel, within their updated TOS
it’s available on the Pro tier’s “customizable email & text marketing.”
meanwhile, their automated emails (Boost tier) only hit your 1p + in-store loyalty folks, not marketplace customers, so if you want true migration leverage, you need Pro
proof it works:
cross-channel loyalty: guests earn/redeem whether they order on your site/app, the DoorDash marketplace, or in-store. first month case study: 22k enrollments and 1.3× higher online order frequency for El Jefe’s
official product pages show the stack: branded sites, commission-free* online ordering, loyalty, email/sms, and pricing: Starter ($0), Boost ($54), Pro ($249) per store / month (+ processing).
press coverage: Restaurant Dive + Food On Demand both confirm the loyalty-everywhere + free website + built-in CRM launch
why this matters:
marketplaces stay your top-of-funnel. 1p becomes your profit center. now you have a way to follow them home
Owner.com’s moat is SEO websites and “migrate your 3p demand to 1p.” if DoorDash lets you target their audience with your offers and link to your site/app, that’s the cleanest migration path we’ve seen
how i’d run it for restaurants (3-25 locations):
launch the free site + storefront and link to google listing to capture branded search
stand up Pro: build segments (new on DD, high-frequency on DD, lapsed on DD) and send DD-audience emails/sms with CTAs to your Storefront (pickup first, delivery second)
turn on loyalty-everywhere so marketplace orders earn points, but push bonus earn/redemptions on 1p to shift behavior
track payout mix weekly: marketplace vs 1p sales, AOV lift on 1p, repeat rate of DD-sourced cohorts
the old deal was simple: rent customers from marketplaces
the new deal: own them
