Couriers for Uber Eats, Bolt/ Glovo threaten biggest ever stoppage

Delivery workers employed by platforms Uber Eats, Bolt and Glovo are threatening to strike again this month. According to reports, they are planning “the biggest ever stoppage”. This is an dispute that affects urban areas much more than regions like the Algarve/ Alentejo. It has come about due to ‘poor working conditions/ low pay’ in a sector that tends to employ the unskilled/ unqualified – and is not known for its generous terms. SIC Notícias explains “couriers earn between 80 cents and €1.20 per delivery, which means to earn enough money to ‘make ends meet’, many of them are obliged to work 12/ 14 even 16 hours per day”.
