Gopuff introduces Starbucks delivery

Gopuff and Starbucks are running a pilot program that uses Gopuff’s micro-fulfillment centers to fulfill and deliver orders to customers’ doorsteps, the coffee chain’s CEO Laxman Narasimhan said during a Tuesday earnings call

Starbucks-trained baristas prepare the drink and food items from Gopuff’s micro-fulfillment centers for orders 24 hours a day and deliver them to customers in about 30 minutes, a Gopuff spokesperson noted.

In the coming months, Gopuff plans to “double down” on its partnership with Starbucks, taking on the chain’s spring season menu and launching a “Starbucks After Dark” campaign to further grow nighttime orders, the Gopuff spokesperson said via email.

Narasimahn added during Starbucks’ earnings call that the company is “targeting a fully incremental opportunity for overnight orders between 5 p.m. and 5 a.m.”

The two companies first announced the tie-up in October 2023. Running in two of Gopuff’s Philadelphia micro-fulfillment centers, Starbucks-trained baristas employed by the instant delivery company prepare food and drink orders from the centers, which are then delivered in approximately 30 minutes to the city’s Old City, Northern Liberties, Fairmount, University City and a majority of Center City neighborhoods.

Gopuff noted in the announcement how Starbucks’ “ready-to-drink products” consistently rank as the most frequently purchased coffee items.

The latest offering comes at a time when Gopuff is trying to revitalize its business as demand for rapid delivery services continues to come under pressure. The company previously introduced additional savings for customers subscribed to its Fam membership program and launched its Student Fam membership program for college students.
