- Grubhub will offer a corporate pay card that lets employees at companies with a Grubhub Corporate Account to order from partner restaurants on the delivery marketplace that accept credit or debit.
- Employers can set parameters, such as time or location, on when employees can use the card or choose to give them a weekly or daily credit while they’re working at home or in the office.
- The company first introduced the corporate account in 2020 and upgraded its features earlier this year to offer expanded options for companies who have hybrid work models.
With this feature, Grubhub is looking to meet the needs of an increasingly flexible workforce. According to a February Gallup poll, about 53% of workers expect to maintain hybrid work, while 24% expect to work exclusively remotely.
Meanwhile, Grubhub is also tapping into the returning office worker. A Microsoft survey showed 50% of companies want their employees back in the office full-time, with separate research from ezCater noting that 81% of business leaders believe free meals is the best incentive to get workers to head back in.
Grubhub’s card complements its Corporate Account program, which enables group orders from pre-selected restaurants, but adds more individual control for workers. The line of credit also provides set limits.
The delivery company said this card could help drive orders to local restaurants and increase order flexibility for employees wherever they’re working, noting that such options can also drive morale. The feature could also benefit at-home workers in rural markets without a lot of restaurant options.
Grubhub notes restaurants are not charged commission for orders placed in-person with the card. While no specific date was provided, the company said the card will be available later this year.
This is the latest feature from a delivery company launched to target workers wherever they may be. DoorDash launched DoorDash for Work in 2020, allowing employers to deliver food to their employees who are working remotely or in the office. Uber Eats just enhanced its group ordering feature to include bill splitting.
