Food delivery service app Bite Squad grows Orlando presence with new jobs

A Minneapolis-based food delivery service is ramping up its growth in Orlando with lots of new jobs.

Bite Squad plans to hire more than 200 contract drivers in the metro area. That comes as restaurants have seen an increase in take-out and delivery orders due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“These positions not only will help satisfy the continued demand for delivery from restaurant partners, they will offer employment during a time when many companies are cutting back their workforce,” said Lafayette, Louisiana-based parent company Waitr Holdings Inc. CEO Carl Grimstad in a prepared statement. The company now has roughly 100 drivers in the area, spokesman Dean Turcol told Orlando Business Journal.

To be safe, Bite Squad offers contactless delivery and provides drivers with masks, gloves and sanitizing spray.

The hiring spree comes as the company had relaunched its delivery service in Orlando during May after previously stopping deliveries locally last January. Bite Squad recently announced it will ramp up hiring of contract drivers in places such as Honolulu, as well as places like Minneapolis/St.Paul, where it wants to add more than 500 drivers.

Bite Squad was founded in 2012 and bought in late 2018 by Waitr (Nasdaq: WTRH). As of June 30, Waitr and Bite Squad operate in more than 600 U.S. cities, targeting small- and mid-sized markets.

Waitr had an average of 44,241 daily orders for the second quarter this year, up 18% from an average 37,576 daily orders in the first quarter, according to the company’s most recent quarterly earnings report.
