UberEats has both Charleston fans and detractors three months after launch

At North Central Deli, Paul Cheney will be delivering sandwiches and black-and-white cookies on a newly purchased Mexican cargo bike, even though he thinks UberEats is a great concept in theory.

“It has the potential, it could be better in the future, but right now it’s clunky,” he says.

North Central Deli is a tiny sandwich shop on Huger Street that already fields plenty of call-in and online orders. Add UberEats and suddenly they are juggling even more orders. “We’ve had drivers show up 10 to 15 minutes before the food is ready and they give us attitude,” says Cheney. One older man showed up before the deli had even accepted the order. “He just gave us so much attitude in front of all our customers.”
